Skin care absolutely does not have to cost a lot of money!

Many ingredients are simply bad for the skin.  Many good actives in products are in such minute amounts that you will not see any improvements.

Skin Affinity is here to change that.

We provide you with products that work.  Our products are formulated with correct percentages of actives to see results.

Your skin is constantly renewing itself.  The outer layer is naturally shedding all the time.  When you are young, this process repeats itself every about every 28 days.  As we age, this process slows down.  By the time we are in our thirties,  the shedding of the dermis slows to  about every 35 days.   Every year the process slows even more.  Our skin becomes duller, wrinkles deepen, sagging starts and dark spots appear,  skin becomes thinner.  Did you know that 70% of our household dust is skin cells?

An important element to keeping the skin fresh and new is to exfoliate.  A good skin care program includes exfoliation, treatment, and moisturizing.  We do not sell mechanical facial exfoliation products like   salt/sugar scrubs, loofah/sisal type cloths,  and grain/bead scrubs.  These scrubs can tear, pull and stretch the delicate facial, and  decollete skin. These physical exfoliation products are fine for your body, but should not be used on thin, sensitive or facial skin.   If you are prone to the tiny broken capillaries (telangietasias) or rosacea, mechanical scrubs can worsen the condition.  Our exfoliation is based on water/gel exfoliators which will not cause physical movement of your skin.  Exfoliation is a very important step in skin care.  The older we become, the slower the natural process becomes.  Exfoliation helps your products penetrate better and quickly.  Exfoliation jump starts the body to produce more collagen and elastin in making new skin.  Exfoliation is a continuous step.  Depending on your particular skin condition, sometimes daily exfoliation is required.  For others, it can be several days apart.  After you exfoliate, feel and listen to the sound your skin makes when you rub your hand across it.  It feels silky smooth and is quiet.  When you have a build up of dead cells, it will feel rough and you can hear it being rubbed.

Apply your products to clean, damp skin.  Moist skin will draw your products into the layers of the skin.  If you use multiple products, apply the one that addresses your main skin concern first.  Then apply a toner, and follow by a moisturizer.  Whatever product you apply first will be the one which is drawn to the deeper layers in your skins matrix.  Unfortunately, the older we are, the longer it takes to see results of your skin regime.  Someone in their late 30's/early 40's may begin to see results in as little as 2-3 weeks.  Mid 40's and beyond, it may take 4-8 weeks of see the benefits.  Develop a skincare program for yourself, based on your needs and stay with it.  Consistency is vital.  It took years for the damage to occur and it will take time to reverse that damage.  Change will not happen overnight.

When we are in our 20's our skin is at its maximum moisture level.  The natural moisture barrier decreases by 10% every decade.  When we are into our 60's and beyond, our skin's moisture level  has dropped to around 60% and below what is was.

The area under our eyes have no oil glands.  Moisturizing is vital even when we younger if we have dry skin.  Moisturizing is crucial  when we are older.  Proper moisturizers for the eye area can be applied both morning and night. The skin under the eye and the eyelid take on a crepeness (looking like crepe paper) as we age.

You need only moisturize the areas of your face that are dry.  Oily areas, the T-zone can be treated with products to help with the oiliness.

Surprisingly,  we should begin maintenance of our skin when we are in our twenties.  This is the ideal age in which to begin a life long serious skin care program.  Our skin is usually at it's peak condition then.  A sunscreen of at least SPF 15, treating acne/oiliness, and daily cleansing is all that is needed.

In our thirties fine lines begin appearing due to loss of the skin's underlaying structural changes.  Collagen and elastin production begins to wain.  Shedding of the skin slows down.  A skin care program must be started now if you are to slow down and reverse the skin damage progression.  To the above you should begin exfoliating and treating your skin for any problems that arise.  Moisturizing should begin whenever you notice a change in your skin leading to dryness.

In our forties, our skin begins to manifest the skin damage we occurred in our twenties and later..  Sun damage is the leading cause of the damage you begin seeing when you are in your forties and gets worse year by year. At this time, in addition to the above, you may add antioxidants, botanicals and the like to your skin care regime.

When you are in your fifties and beyond, the same program applies to when you were in your forties.  You probably will want to add more potent cosmeceutials to your routine, increase moisturization and exfoliation.

It is not too late to begin your skin care program.  Perhaps by now, you've been to a dermatologist and/or plastic surgeon to undo some of your skin issues.  Our skin will respond to products we put on it.  It needs to be the right products, in the proper amounts to have any benefit on it.  You probably have a good sense of your skin needs already and  make well informed purchases.  Remember, the PRICE DOES NOT REFLECT THE BENEFITS  of some of the extremely high priced products.  You are NOT getting what you paid for with a lot of skin care companies and will be disappointed with the results.  Also bear in mind, that if a company has a few great products (that have the proper concentrations of actives and ingredients that are beneficial to your skin), does not mean that all their products are good.  Do not assume that all are beneficial to you.  Read the label.

Perhaps some of Skin Affinity's products are new to you.  We list the skin uses for each product.  Our prices and sizes are such that you can buy with confidence.  If your skin doesn't respond, or isn't what your  skin needs,  then you haven't spent a small fortune and wasted a lot of time using them.  Our actives are however, based on known and proven skin results.

We do not use the very high priced fancy bottles and jars, with eye catching labels that display nicely in your bathroom. Our products do not have a pretty color and smell. Do you want the packaging, colors and smells or a product with actives in the proper amounts to produce results?

Skin Affinity has products for facial needs, hair, nails and body care.  We have products for men, women, children, and teens.  We invite you back often to explore new products and see our on sale items.

Remember to always wear sunscreen of at least SPF 15.   Did you know UVA and UVB rays can penetrate the windows of your vehicle and house?   Rays reflect off water and sand.  Rays penetrate your skin on a cloudy day.  Sun damage is a leading cause of pre-mature aging skin and skin cancer.  It is essential to use a sunscreen.  Apply at least 20 minutes before sun exposure. Re-apply after swimming or sweating.  UVB rays damage the top layer of the skin.  It causes the body to produce more melanin, which is the darking/tanning aspect.  Too much exposure at one time causes sun-burning.  UVA rays damage the deeper layers of your dermis. This can lead to pre-mature aging and skin cancer.  The UVA rays damage collagen fibers and can cause skin cancer via indirect DNA damage.

An easy way to remember the differences between UVA and UVB is to think  AGING for UVA and BURNING for UVB.     UVA are long rays that penetrate the deep layers of the skin.  This causes the skin to become pre-maturely aged and this action may not be seen for years later.  UVB penetrate the top layer of the skin and the result is immediate sunburn.

Skin Cancer can kill you.  There are three categories of skin cancer.  Squamous Cell Carcinoma, Basal Cell Carcinoma and Malignant Melanoma.  Malignant melanoma, the most deadly form of skin cancer increases about 7% per year.  We can not urge you enough to stop tanning, never go without sunscreen and avoid the sun as much as possible.

Tanning beds also emit UVA rays and some emit UVB rays as well.  Tanning beds are not safe, can give off twice the amount of Ultra Violet Rays that you would absorb from the sun.

Remember, tanned skin is damaged skin.

This is the body's desperate way of protecting itself!

Unless a product states it has been formulated to do so;  Collagen creams can not penetrate the skin.  Elastin creams can not penetrate the skin. Collagen and Elastin molecules are too large to enter the skin in their natural state.  Be aware of claims that state promise un-believable results.   Educate your self on actives and in-actives, stabilizer's, etc and understand their  benefits and harms.  Learn to look at any label and tell if that product is good for your skin and will correct your skin problem.  Some alcohols are too harsh  for your skin, PEGS, PARA, etc can cause allergic reactions along with dyes and scents. You may already know what ingredients cause an undesirable reaction on your skin.

You can restore your skin and correct a lot of  your problems with the right ingredients.
See the product description for our ingredients and their use.

Don't spend a lot of money on skin cleaners and soaps.  They are on the skin mere seconds and are then washed off.  Cleansers and soaps that have added actives, such as Vitamin A, C, E etc. do not have time to penetrate the skin for any benefits.  On the other hand, most bar soaps and cleansers are too harsh for skin use and in a few seconds can strip your skin of it's natural moisture barrier.   The normal ph of healthy skin is between 4.5 - 6.0.  Most commercial bar soaps have  ph levels from 7.0 - 10.0.  As you can see, these soaps disrupt the integrity of your skin's ph level.  Something to consider is switching from a bar soap to a liquid one.  Bar soap contains salts, calcium ions, sodium or potassium fatty acids.  When these come into contact with water, especially hard water, a chemical reaction occurs.  Insoluble salts mix with the minerals in the water and result in soap scum and ring around the tub.     Rich moisturizing cleansers like goats milk, glycerin, and castile are formulated to loosen dirt and allow it to be washed off without stripping the natural oils on the top layers of your skin. These cleansers may not have the super suds you are accustomed to, but are much better for your skin.   Squeaky clean is not good. This means  your protective moisture barrier has been compromised.   skinandaging.com/article/1358 is a good place to see the ph levels of common national soap brands.  These comparisions are toward the bottom of the page.

Most treatment actives are applied at night when the skin repairs itself.  Some are applied during the day to address specific needs.  Follow all product directions.  Use as directed.

Skin care should only take 5 minutes in the morning and night.  Targeted treatments like an acid peel will take longer, but well worth the time and effort to get your skin to its optimum level.

Skin care is not seasonal.  Your skin needs different care during each season of the year.  In the winter months, there isn't usually a lot of humidity.   Winds and cold temperatures  can dry your skin.  In the summer months,  many are prone to more perspiration and oiliness.  These conditions can cause acne, and blackheads.  The spring and fall would seem to be the best seasons for your skin.  However the skin can be stressed during these seasons because of the temperature, wind and humidity fluctuations.

Make your skin care a routine and adhere to it year 'round.
